Professional Classroom Placement: Please consult with Miss Amy to help determine appropriate classroom placement.
Our level classes group students by age, and are the core of our dance curriculum. Level classes are offered in Tap, Jazz and Ballet. Though each are not required, these classes are highly recommended as the center of all dance technique taught at Amy's School of Dance.
Ballet is an artistic dance and often characterized as light, graceful and with fluid movement.
Jazz is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns.
A dance performed wearing shoes fitted with metal taps, characterized by rhythmical tapping of the toes and heels.
Hip hop refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking and popping.
Lyrical is a style that blends elements of ballet and jazz dance. It's often performed to music with lyrics to inspire movements to express strong emotion.
Modern is a contemporary, theatrical and expressive style of dancing.
These classes are offered in Tap, Jazz and Ballet, and students must be invited to participate. These classes are offered to dedicated dancer who wishes to expand her/his technique. For those who qualify, Elite classes are taken in addition to level classes.
Tumbling is a form of gymnastics performed without props or equipment. Common moves in tumbling include flips, somersaults, tucks, handstands, cartwheels, aerials and more. Professional classroom placement required; please consult with Miss Amy to help determine appropriate classroom placement.
Amy's School of Dance competes in regional events in central Iowa. Competition students must audition each summer and are then placed in smallgroups based by age. In addition to group dances, we also have solo and duet entries competing, as well. *Dancers must compete with a team to be eligible to compete a solo or duet.
Theater is for ages 8 and up. The goal is to build skills not only in acting, but overall performance for both dancers and public speakers. Students do not have to be enrolled in a dance class to be in theater. Meets Mondays, 7 pm - 8:30 pm. Registration periods for theatre are August, January and June.
Theatre costs are separate from dance tuition.
"My daughters have had an excellent experience with Amy's School of Dance. The instructors are caring and competent and assist the students in learning the skills necessary to continue their dance education well beyond high school. Thanks to Amy's School of Dance for their efforts!"
